MEET JOHN LUJAN
Family Man  |  Retired Firefighter  |  Business Owner

Representative John Lujan embodies the very best of San Antonio - a man of faith, family, and unwavering service. Born and raised on the Southside of San Antonio, John's commitment to his community was instilled from an early age by his parents - his father a local minister, and his mother a dedicated school principal.

John's life has been marked by a calling to serve others and protect the community he loves. After graduating, he answered the call to duty as a Deputy in the Bexar County Sheriff's Department for five years. He then joined the San Antonio Fire Department, where he served for over 25 years. During his time as a firefighter, John worked with elected officials at all levels of government, advocating for additional tools and training to help first responders better serve their communities.

Driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, Rep. Lujan founded a small IT firm that has grown into a thriving business, now employing over 550 people in and around the community. This blend of public service and business acumen uniquely qualifies John to represent the diverse interests of his district.

First elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 2016 to represent House District 118, Representative Lujan was re-elected in November 2021 to continue serving Bexar County. In the 87th Legislature, Rep. Lujan served on the Higher Education, Licensing & Regulation, and Health Care Reform Committees. Currently serving in his second term, Rep. Lujan serves as the Vice-Chair of the Juvenile Justice and Family Issues Committee and as a member of the Transportation Committee. Rep. Lujan was also appointed to serve on the Advisory Council on Cultural Affairs.

John and his wife, Freda, have been married for over 40 years. Together, they've raised five boys (John, Jacob, Jesse, Christopher, and Michael), three of whom are adopted. When not attending to his legislative responsibilities, you'll find Rep. Lujan teaching Sunday School at Southside Baptist Church, playing pickleball or cornhole, and coaching youth football. Representative Lujan serves on various boards including Hope for the Hurting Ministries, San Antonio Mobility Coalition, Southside Cardinals Youth Sports League, and ChildSafe San Antonio.

As a caretaker of the community, Rep. Lujan never wavers from his commitments. He is a champion for the family values that make San Antonio what it is. Rep. John Lujan represents the very best of San Antonio and continues to be a dedicated voice for the people of House District 118 in the Texas Legislature.
